Bid Details and Editing

Upon clicking on the bid itself, a more detailed overview is presented, offering you the option to make specific edits:

  1. Route:

    • The route information on our live map and your PIREP report will remain blank unless you provide a route in this box.
    • You can conveniently copy/paste the route from your simBrief, which was initially generated on the crew website.
    • Ensure the route is entered without decimals, slashes, or the departure/arrival airport codes.
  2. Cruise Altitude:

    • With SmartCARS 3, there's no need to manually input a cruise altitude. The application autonomously detects when you've leveled off, initiated a climb, or commenced a descent.
  3. Passenger/Cargo Load:

    • The load information on our flight plan page, as generated by simBrief, is transmitted to SmartCARS. No separate input is required.
  4. Online Network Selection:

    • While not mandatory, opting for the online network selection enables accurate representation on the map under the appropriate ATC network.

These enhancements streamline the editing process, providing greater flexibility and ease of use within the SmartCARS 3 platform.

Flight Tracking

Upon initiating the 'Fly' option in the preceding window, an alert window will appear in the bottom-right corner of the application, indicating successful connection to your simulator and the commencement of flight tracking. Transitioning to the flight tracking page provides a comprehensive display of your current flight information, accompanied by real-time updates to the flight log as it is actively generated. This feature allows you to monitor and review crucial details throughout the course of your flight in an efficient and accessible manner.

1.png

Pause at TOD Functionality

The 'Pause at TOD' feature is now conveniently accessible as a toggle button situated on the bottom-left side of the smartCARS window.

This function calculates your Top of Descent (TOD) based on the current altitude and speed settings within smartCARS. It's important to recognize that the TOD estimation provided by smartCARS may differ from the TOD estimate generated within your Flight Management System (FMS). This distinction ensures precise control over the pause event, enhancing the overall flexibility and adaptability of your flight management experience.

Flight Completion

In smartCARS 3, concluding flights is facilitated by shutting down ALL engines. Alternatively, users may streamline the process by activating the 'Automatic PIREP submission' option in the settings, which automatically submits the PIREP once smartCARS determines engine shutdown.

In the event of an error during the PIREP submission, should smartCARS indicate an issue, it is advised to verify on the crew website that the PIREP was successfully submitted. In cases where submission did not occur, capture a screenshot of smartCARS and proceed to submit a manual PIREP through the 'Dispatch' page on the crew website. This ensures accurate recording and reporting of your flight data.

Logbook

logbook.png

This dedicated page provides a comprehensive overview of your previously logged flights, complete with the corresponding PIREP status for each entry. To enhance user experience, utilize the search and filter options located at the top of the page, allowing for efficient retrieval of specific completed flights based on your preferences and criteria.

Settings

smartCARS 3 offers a plethora of adjustable settings, providing users with the flexibility to tailor the application according to their individual needs and preferences. It's important to note that modifications to these settings do not impact your flights with United Virtual or interactions on our website, ensuring a seamless and personalized experience without compromising your virtual aviation endeavors.

settings.png

Attention X-Plane users: A known bug exists within smartCARS 3 when the 'Tracking Provider' is set to XPUIPC, leading to inaccuracies in flight tracking. TFDi Designs is cognizant of this issue, and, for the time being, recommends selecting the FSUIPC option as an interim solution to ensure proper flight tracking functionality. Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated as we work to resolve this matter.

PIREPs (Pilot Reports)

Approved/Rejected

All flights will categorized into three categories.

Approved Pending Rejected
image-1687627391836.png image-1687627437087.png image-1687627413145.png

The criteria used to determine these categories:

Approved Pending Rejected

To qualify as an approved PIREP, the flight must meet the following criteria:

  1. The flight successfully departed and arrived at the scheduled airports.
  2. The landing rate during the arrival was above -600 feet per minute (fpm), adhering to United Virtual's standard for a safe and satisfactory landing.

A PIREP is categorized as pending if it meets one or more of the following criteria:

  1. The landing rate of the aircraft exceeded the standard of -600 feet per minute (fpm).
  2. The flight log indicates that a stall was experienced at some point during the flight.
  3. The flight log indicates that the flight landed or diverted to an airport other than the scheduled arrival airport.
  4. A manual PIREP was filed by the pilot.

These criteria help distinguish PIREPs that require further review or additional information before approval.

The rejection of PIREPs is at the discretion of our Hub Managers. PIREPs may be rejected for the following reasons:

  1. The aircraft landing rate exceeded the standard of -600 feet per minute (fpm).
  2. The flight log indicates that a stall was experienced during the flight.
  3. The flight log shows that the flight landed or diverted to an airport other than the scheduled arrival airport.
  4. The pilot did not enter a route into SmartCARS.
  5. The pilot is/was abusing the Charter system.

If a flight is rejected for a Tour leg, the pilot will not proceed to the next flight until an accepted PIREP is received. This ensures adherence to standards and fair play within the aviation community.

If you think your PIREP was rejected for the wrong reasons, please reach out to your Hub Manager, or submit a ticket on Discord.

PIREPs (Pilot Reports)

Manual PIREP

Manual PIREPs are utilized when SmartCARS is unable to automatically submit a PIREP on your behalf. This option allows pilots to manually provide the necessary flight information and details to ensure that the flight is appropriately recorded, even in situations where automatic submission is not feasible. Manual PIREPs serve as a convenient and effective solution for reporting flights when the standard automated process encounters challenges.

Screenshot 2024-01-25 at 2.29.04 AM.jpeg

Manual PIREP Guidelines

Please adhere to the following guidelines when using the Manual PIREP system:

  1. Manual PIREPs are only intended for use in the event of an error during normal SmartCARS filing.
  2. Proof of the flight being flown must be indicated in the appropriate box.
  3. Abuse of the manual PIREP system may lead to removal from United Virtual. It should only be used for reporting errors with SmartCARS.
  4. Complete all required fields on the form before submission.

Tour Center

Tour Center Overview

Tours offer our pilots the opportunity to explore regions they might not typically venture into, presenting unique and thrilling experiences. Each tour features a distinctive theme and is adaptable to any aircraft type within our comprehensive database. However, it's crucial to note that not all airports encountered during these tours can accommodate every aircraft type. Tours consist of pre-planned legs or flights that must be undertaken in a specific sequence. Upon successful completion of a tour, pilots earn a commendation displayed on their profile page.

To access our Tours, use the sidebar navigation on the crew site. Navigate to the 'Activities' category and then select 'Tours.' Upon entering the Tour Center, the default view displays all available tours for your consideration.

In this section, a map visualizes the various legs of the tour. The starting point is denoted by the green flag, while the red flag signifies the concluding point. Numbered flags represent the individual legs or flights between the start and end.

Adjacent to the map, a list of flights is presented. Each flight entry includes essential details such as Airports, Flight Time, and Mileage. To integrate these flights into your bids, simply click the blue '+' button.

Adding Flights to Bids

When clicking the blue '+' button to add a flight to your bids, a pop-up will prompt you to select your aircraft for the specific flight. Choose from any aircraft available in our database.

It's essential to note that certain tours may necessitate flying into compact airports with short runways. Take heed of runway lengths at these airports to ensure you select an appropriate aircraft. Opting for a B747-400 on a tour leg involving a 3,000ft runway, for instance, would not be ideal.

After choosing your aircraft, click the 'Bid Flight' button to confirm your selection. Subsequently, proceed to the Dispatch page within the crew website to generate your flight plan. Additional information on the dispatch system can be found here.

Towards the bottom of the page, you'll encounter a table displaying all pilots who have signed up for the tour, along with their progress. This provides a collective overview of the pilot community engaged in the same tour.

Tour Participant Information

Explore the tour landscape by accessing information about fellow pilots who have signed up for the same journey. The table offers insights into each participant, including their current location on the tour, sign-up date, the number of legs flown, and a visual representation of their progress.

Please be aware that once a tour has been successfully completed, it is not open for reflight. This policy ensures a diverse and continually evolving tour experience for all participants.
